BATS certainly lived up to their publicity, producing a lavish treatment of The Wizard of Oz with an impressive revolving stage used to great effect, stunning costumes, great graphics and lighting and some nifty choreography.
Director Nick Brannam showed a light touch, handling the material with flair and pacing it just right for its audience.
Neil Streeter, the musical director, oversaw a lush and fresh sounding interpretation of the score, played with great panache by the orchestra.
Beautifully performed and sung, the show showcased an array of talent from its sizeable cast.
At its heart was an immensely assured star performance by Alyssia Kershaw as Dorothy.
In support, Craig Saunders (Scarecrow), Bryn Hughes (Tinman) and Ian Smith (Lion) were pitch perfect, giving touching and amusing turns. Laura Newborough made an impression as a sweet but rather vacant Glinda.
