Welcome to Basingstoke Amateur Theatrical Society (BATS)

Founded in 1958, BATS is a not-for-profit, amateur theatrical society that specialises in staging musicals.  Membership is open to those aged 16+.

We are a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers who share a passion for musical theatre – whether performing on-stage or working behind the scenes.  We produce two shows a year, in May and November, usually at The Haymarket in Basingstoke (United Kingdom).

Over the years, BATS has established a reputation for staging musical theatre productions that are of an exceptional standard, using talent from in and around Basingstoke.

next production: priscilla queen of the desert
14 - 24 November 2018

A journey to the heart of FABULOUS!  Based on the 1994 smash-hit movie, the show has a dazzling array of outrageous costumes and countless disco classics, including It’s Raining Men, I Will Survive and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. Read the Basingstoke Gazette review.

It's our Priscilla show trailer! Catch the cast, director and assistant director, musical director and dance captain in rehearsal for this fabulous musical!

Our three Queens of the Desert donned their colourful "I will Survive" costumes to visit Basingstoke town centre and mingle with the locals.
It took about an hour to transform Ian Moseley into Bernadette for his role in Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Watch it in all in 60 seconds!

want to PERFORM?

New member auditions are held in January and June to coincide with auditions for future shows.  If we have already cast our current show, you can help out on our current production.

Before you get in touch, read the Perform with BATS page.  It explains the audition process to join BATS, auditioning for a show and how much it costs.

You need to be at least 16 to join BATS.  If you are 15 or under then you can join our junior Society, BATS Next Gen.

want to help out?

If you’re not one for the limelight but want to volunteer to help out off-stage, there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.

If you have previously worked on other productions, have a particular area of expertise or specialist skill – or just want to try your hand at something new – we’d love to hear from you.
